Although the current line is technically for dudes, it’s nothing that can’t be handled by some scissors and a sewing machine.
For the last two months or so, eyes and ears alike have been ambushed with talk of CES 2010. CES 2010! CES 2010! And despite our somewhat bitter (okay…very bitter) disappointment that we were unable to attend CES 2010!, we never stopped staying directly on top of reports and blogs from the (sniff) more fortunate folks who made it out. And 2010? Is looking supah-fine for the world of consumer electronics.

Excitingly, an increase in slate and tablet PCs debuted this year at the Las Vegas conference. If you’ve never had the pleasure of using a tablet PC, just imagine if your Etch-A-Sketch got a serious makeover: tablet and slate PCs provide a mobile, electronic notebook platform operated by a stylus and/or touch screen. Using handwriting recognition, these e-notebooks combine the convenience of a paper notebook with the functionality, safety and storage capacity of a laptop. Usually, a tablet PC flips its screen over to cover the keyboard, leaving you alone with the screen but still burdening you with the weight of the full laptop. And while slate PCs are “No Keyboards Allowed,” they provide little opportunity for versatility. And laptop ladies require adaptability and mobility.

Most notable this year? The Lenovo IdeaPad U1 Hybrid. Taking the tablet PC/ laptop mashup to the next level, this Best of CES Nominee will offer a tablet that completely detaches from its keyboard and is powered by its own separate operating system, while maintaining an eight-hour battery life and much of its “laptop form” functionality. At only 1.7 lbs in tablet form, this is a must-have for businesswomen, writers, medical professionals– basically anyone who takes notes frequently but needs the safety of electronic storage. Release dates are soon to come, along with more details on the up-and-coming but already infamous Apple Tablet, which is rumored to work much like a beefier iTouch with full computer capabilities.

If you’re intrigued by the technology but don’t want to wait, we recommend the ASUS Tablet Notebook. At just over three pounds and under $600, it’s the smallest and slimmest of tablet PCs on the market today, offering Windows 7 Home Premium, five hours of battery life, and a super chic aesthetic. For on-the-go women everywhere, the Year of the Tablet is promising big, sexy evolution in the way we work and communicate. Stay tuned.

As I was walking through my office this morning, carrying my open laptop in one hand, a hot cup of coffee in the other, my humongous purse slung over one shoulder, I stopped for a good ten seconds to marvel at a world with such awesome technology that a working girl like myself can answer email while she walks down a hallway. When I finally docked my computer and got to hunting for some more products to rock your socks off, I had to laugh at the coincidence of stumbling upon the Sony Vaio P series. P, as in pocket. As in pocket-sized. As in a computer that can fit in your back pocket, girls.

I think I just had a teeny, tiny…oh.

About the size and shape of a large pocket book and slimmer than some cell phones, this mini-comp packs a punch that some of its extra-large colleagues can’t even brag about. In addition to wireless capabilities, the P Series offers an 80 gig hard drive, 3.5 hours of battery life, a 1.33 GHz Intel Z520 atom processor, a high-res 8 inch backlit screen, and comes with the Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium operating system. And did I mention that it only weighs 1.4 pounds? That is significantly less than the weight of my purse. Amazing.

Available in red, white, black, or green.

Or that chickens, cows, and dead bodies alike reside on the farmlands of Texas? Or have you ever pondered the slippery precariousness of holding a still-beating human heart? These and other fascinating subjects about life after death– for cadavers, that is– are presented and dissected in this humorously morbid, informative book by acclaimed journalist and witty wordsmith Mary Roach. From gross anatomy labs to the history of body snatching, forensic studies to body disposal, Roach digs through the evolution of science’s sometimes sordid, often questionable, and frequently hilarious relationship with the dead.

If the girl you’re shopping for doesn’t just really dig music, but is also a musician? Gift-giving can get a little tricky. Especially if you aren’t so musically inclined. You’ll want to steer clear of super cheesy gifts– mugs covered in music notes, instrument-shaped jewelry, anything that says “Just B-Natural!”– in favor of more personal, meaningful, and useful gift. Check out the suggestions below!

Moleskine Music Notebook

For a lot of musicians and songwriters, inspiration doesn’t happen just when it’s convenient for you to sit down and play/ write/ sing. It happens when you least expect it. So, rather than writing down your ideas, lyrics or melodies on the nearest dirty napkin, wouldn’t it be lovely if your girl had a music notebook? This sturdy, pocket-sized version comes with almost 200 pages of staff paper, and it’s only $10.00!

Cinderella’s Big Score

You can write down your spontaneous ideas and know at what point in the middle of the night you’ve completely lost your mind! And for you romantics, what better way to greet your bedmate in the morning with “I Love You!” (if you do) and “What Was Your Name Again?” (if you’re daring and already at least three feet out the bedroom door).
